Description

The 1879 20 Francs is a French gold coin, minted by the Monnaie de Paris. The weight of the coin is 6.451 grams with a fineness of 900 (21 carat gold), this means it contains 5.806 grams of pure gold. The diameter of the coin is 21 mm.

The coin has the mintmark A, indicating it was struck at the Monnaie de Paris, France.

Obverse: The obverse of the 3rd Republic 1879 20 French Francs depcits an image of the Genius of the Republic, designed by Augustin Dupré. The sculptor's name, 'Dupre,' is visible at the base of the coin.

The inscription on the coin reads 'REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE'.

Reverse: The reverse of the 1879 Gold 20 Francs features an oak wreath, with the face value of 20 FRANCS and the year of issue. Around the wreath is the inscription 'LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ'. The mint mark is visible at the bottom of the coin.
