Tzimiskes was born sometime around 925 to an unnamed member of the Kourkouas family. He reigned the Byzantine Empire from 969-976 during the Macedonian Dynasty which started in 876 and lasted until 1056. He unexpectedly died at the age of 50-51 after returning from a campaign against the Abbasids.
The obverse features Jesus Christ King of Kings, bust of Christ facing, wearing nimbus cruciger with two pellets in the limb of each cross. This coin is in very fine condition, excellent considering it is over 1,400 years old. This coin would make an eye-catching addition to any numismatic collection.
