A rare, and historic, hammered silver Groat of King Charles I, dated 1646. The obverse features the bust of King Charles the First facing left, with "IIII" behind for Groat (fourpence). The reverse shows a scroll over the declaration, with the date 1646. This coin was struck in the middle of the civil war by Royalists leaving Ashbury De la Zouch, on the 28th Feb, 1646. Marching to Bridgenorth on Seven, only holding out till 26th April, 1646. A splendid, rare coin, and unique piece of English history.
