This gold coin features the second Bust of Charles I in Coronation Robes wearing a high double arched Crown on the obverse and a crowned oval topped Shield with Elaborate garnishing on the reverse. Mintmark Heart Struck 1629-30. Mounted and cleaned.

Charles the First coinage is always exciting in design but the gold hammered pieces are really quite spectacular. Especially these large hammered pieces with such a distinctive portrait of the head of the King which he was soon to lose. This coin is a Tower Mint issue - he was the only English Monarch to be executed.
