A silver Crown coin of King Charles II, dated 1664. Charles II ruled between 1660 and 1685, and was known as the Merry Monarch. Charles II was restored to the throne of England, after the austere years of Oliver Cromwell. His adventures are well documented, and many movies have been made about his flight into exile after the execution of his father, Charles I.
