Quintuple sovereign to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Gold Sovereign. The Royal Mint had an issue limit of 10,000 coins, with 7,936 produced. No other Sovereign varieties in 1989 bore the traditional St. George image on the reverse.

The Five Pound Gold Coin - sometimes referred to as the Quintuple Sovereign - contains 36.6 grams of gold (Five times the weight of a Sovereign). Due to their status as British Legal tender they are Capital Gains Tax Free (CGT Exempt), so they are a good choice for British investors.

The design, by Bernard Sindall, shows Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse side, sat on the throne in a style mimicking that of Elizabeth I. The reverse is very similar to the original English Sovereigns too, with the Royal Arms overlaid on a double Tudor rose with a crown above.

This coin is Brilliant Uncirculated and comes boxed with a certificate.
