This is the 2002 Jubilee Brilliant Uncirculated five-pound gold coin, also known as the 'Quintuple Sovereign' or the 'Crown'. The Royal Mint set an issue limit of 1,500 for this coin, and sold 1,370 sets.
This coin weighs the same as a proof or regular five-pound gold coin, at 39.94 grams and is struck with 22-carat gold (91.67% fineness).
The obverse of the coin is Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Elizabeth II, the fourth official portrait. The reverse design of the coin was by regular Mint designer Timothy Noad, who revitalised the traditional crowned shield. This was last used on Sovereign coins in 1893 for Queen Victoria, so it's a fitting nod to another long-reigning and culturally crucial figure. 2002 marked 50 years of the Queen's reign, making this a very special Jubilee Five Sovereign coin.
This 2002 £5 gold coin comes complete with a Certificate of Authenticity, and is protected in a smart green felt box.
