In 2009 the Royal Mint released a Two Pound proof gold coin - also known as a Double Sovereign - to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, the Scottish poet and lyricist.

The Two Pound Gold Coin - sometimes referred to as the Double Sovereign - contains 14.63 grams of gold (twice the weight of a Sovereign). The coin comes with both a Royal Mint box and the certificate of authenticity.

The reverse of the coin was designed by the Royal Mint engraving team and features the quote "WE'LL TAK A CUP OF KINDNESS YET, FOR AULD LANG SYNE" from Burns' poem (later adapted as a folk song) 'Auld Lang Syne'.

On the obverse side is Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, and the edge of the coins reads SHOULD AULD ACQUAINTANCE BE FORGOT.

Due to their status as British Legal tender they are Capital Gains Tax Free (CGT Exempt), so they are a good choice for British investors.
