The Royal Mint issued a commemorative two pound proof gold coin in 1995 to mark 50 years since the formation of the United Nations. This coin is 22-carat and comes with the authentic box and certificate.
The United Nations was founded in 1945 after the Second World War to act as a global peacekeeping initiative to prevent any future large-scale conflicts. It replaced the previous League of Nations.
The late sculptor Michael Rizzello designed this coin, which features the flags of the United Nations clustered around the 50th anniversary emblem and the slogan NATIONS UNITED FOR PEACE.
The two pound gold coin - sometimes referred to as the Double Sovereign - contains 14.63 grams of gold.
