This 1998 Proof gold £5 coin (aka Quintuple Sovereign, or Crown) was issued to celebrate Prince Charles' 50th Birthday. This coin is particularly uncommon. The Royal Mint set an issue limit of 2000 sets but only 773 were produced, with up to 100 more proof coins with special £50 notes produced too.
The obverse of this Gold Proof £5 coin features the third portrait of the Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley, while on the back is a smaller portrait of Prince Charles, as designed by Michael Noakes and Robert Elderton. The initials MN and RE appear to the far right of the ribbon
The coin heavily refers to The Prince's Trust, which is inscribed in one of the ribbons, along with the phrase "HELPING YOUNG PEOPLE TO SUCCEED".
