The beautiful 2019 Austrian Wiener Neustadt one ounce silver coin from the Austrian Mint with a face value of €1.50.
The coin depicts the original Burg (castle) Wiener Neustadt on its reverse and the Austrian crusader of Duke Leopold V on horseback on its obverse.
The 2019 1oz silver Wiener Neustadt coin was minted to mark 825 years since the Mint was established. In 1194 Duke Leopold V was paid a massive ransom of 12 tons of silver for the release of the English King Richard the Lionheart who had been held captive in Dürnstein Castle. The silver was minted into coins leading to the foundation of the Austrian Mint and then used to fund the creation of castle Wiener Neustadt pictured on this coin, as well as financing the expansion of the Holy Roman Empire.
