Silver Canadian Maple Leaf Coins
The Royal Canadian Mint introduced the silver Maple Leaf in 1988, ten years after the gold version, and struck it to 999.9 fineness from the outset. That purity is higher than almost any other mainstream bullion coin and is a large part of the coin's reputation.
The design has not changed: the maple leaf on the reverse, the monarch on the obverse. Since 2014 the Mint has applied its MINTSHIELD surface treatment, developed to reduce the milk spotting that can affect very pure silver, and added radial lines and a micro-engraved privy mark as security features.
Silver Canadian Maple Coin Specification
The silver Canadian Maple is a Canadian silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint in 999.9 fine silver, the highest purity used on any mainstream bullion coin. Unlike the gold Maple Leaf, which comes in five sizes, the silver coin is produced in one ounce form only.
