The 2019 Captain America 1oz silver coin is a collectable bullion coin made of 999.9 fine silver and produced by the Perth Mint in Australia on behalf of the island of Tuvalu. It is being released ahead of the next Avengers movie: Endgame.
The coin depicts Captain America in his classic comic book suit on the reverse side, complete with his famous shield. On the obverse is Queen Elizabeth II's portrait, as designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.
A mintage limit of 50,000 coins has been set for this Captain America coin but with the huge popularity of the Avengers across the world, demand is expected to be high from collectors both old and new.
The story of Captain America:
Steve Rogers is a man from Brooklyn, New York, who joins the US Army during the Second World War. In the process of his training he is selected by Dr Erskine as a worthy candidate for a Super Soldier serum he has been developing. The result? Rogers becomes Captain America, possessing superhuman strength, speed, stamina and healing.
The film Captain America: The First Avenger tells this story, and how Rogers crash lands in the Arctic during WW2. In the first Avengers film he is brought back to life (70 years later), and from there 'Cap' has fought alongside the likes of Iron Man, Thor, and Black Widow in a range of missions to save the world.
The Captain America comic first appeared in December 1940, with Captain America punching Adolf Hitler; a full year before America joined World War II. As the leader of the Avengers, Captain America is ranked the 6th top comic-book character of all time by IGN.
