This coin celebrates the Year of the Snake and the reverse of the coin features a design by artist Chris Costello of a coiled snake on a background of grass and the Chinese symbol for the snake. The obverse of the coin features the official portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Martin Jennings, as well as the coin's face value.
The snake in Chinese astrology is considered to be wise and cunning, and those born under the snake are considered independent, acting on their own judgement with insight.
