Description

The Proof 1996 Five Dollar American Gold Coin was minted to celebrate the 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta, and 100 years since the start of the modern Olympics.

The obverse side was designed by Frank Gasparro and modelled by T. James Ferrell. It features an athlete carrying the Olympic torch and lighting the Olympic cauldron, as well as the initials of the USA and the five Olympic rings beneath it.

The reverse, designed by William J. Krawczewicz and modelled by Thomas D. Rogers Sr, features the Atlanta Olympic logo flanked by laurel leaves.
