The 1997 American Half Eagle proof coin, issued in memory of Franklin Delano Roosevelt - the former President of the United States - and the opening of his presidential memorial.
This 1997 American Half-Eagle has a face value of $5 and features Franklin Roosevelt on the obverse. His portrait was designed by T. James Ferrell, and was based on one of Roosevelt's favourite photographs while onboard the USS Houston in 1938. The reverse Eagle was designed by James M. Peed, and the coin was modeled by Thomas Rogers Sr.
