The 1997 American Five Dollar Gold Coin was issued in commemoration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt - the former President of the United States.
The coin features Franklin Roosevelt on the obverse. His portrait was designed by T. James Ferrell, and was based on one of Roosevelt's favourite photographs while onboard the USS Houston in 1938. The reverse Eagle was designed by James M. Peed, and the coin was modelled by Thomas Rogers Sr.
Roosevelt was the 32nd US leader and presided over America for four terms of office spanning 12 years. His death, in 1945, came less than four weeks before the German army surrendered to the Allied forces to signal the end of the Second World War.
Please note: This coin is provided in a capsule only. There is no box or certificate..
