This is the 20 Kroner gold coin from Denmark. The coin features Christian X on the obverse, along with a traditional shield/coat of arms design on the obverse. KONGE AF DANMARK (King of Denmark)
This is the 20 Kroner gold coin from Denmark. It was minted by the Danish government between 1913 and 1917. The coin is 90% gold purity and slightly larger than a British gold sovereign.
The coin features Christian X on the reverse and the words KONGE AF DANMARK – CHRISTIAN X. Son of King Frederik VIII, Christian ruled Denmark from 1912 to 1947. He was placed under house arrest by the Nazis during the Second World War after opposing occupation of Denmark.
The obverse side of the coin has the traditional Danish coat of arms shield on display, as well as stating the coin’s year, its value, a small heart symbol denoting it was made by the Copenhagen Mint, and the initials VBP for their chief engraver at the time – V.B. Poulsen.
Only 3.7 million of these 20 Kroner coins were estimated to have been made – with many lost or destroyed since then – making this coin quite rare.
