AN12 20 French Francs gold coin. It features the head of Napoleon (I) and the reverse has a wreath, which surrounds the value. The year is below the wreath. The text on the obverse reads "BONAPARTE PREMIER CONSUL" and on the reverse it reads "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE". The 'A' mintmark indicates that the coin was minted in Paris.
This was the first ever design of 20 French Franc. The new currency was introduced at a time of upheaval in France that had even seen the French create their own calendar. The year AN12 corresponds to the period between 24 September 1803 - 22nd September 1804 in the Gregorian calendar.
