The Peruvian 1/5 Libra Gold Coin, also known as the 1/5 Libra Oro, was first minted in 1901 and was used as a circulating coin in Peru until the 1930s. The coin was part of a series of gold coins issued by the Peruvian government to standardize the currency and establish the country's monetary system.
The 1/5 Libra Oro is a small, elegant coin with a beautiful design that captures the essence of Peru's rich cultural heritage. The obverse of the coin features the Peruvian coat of arms, which depicts a shield in three parts with a vicuña (similar to a llama), a cinchona tree, and a cornucopia pouring coins. The reverse features a man in inca headdress surrounded by the legend VERDAD JUSTICIA (Truth and Justice) and the value of '1/5 de LIBRA'.
This coin has a weight of 1.6 grams and a diameter of 15 mm, it is made of 0.9167 pure gold, which is equivalent to 22 carats, giving it a rich, warm colour.
