Description

The 2023 Britannia 1/2oz is a British gold coin, minted by the Royal Mint. The weight of the coin is 15.58 grams with a fineness of 999.9 (24 carat gold), this means it contains 15.55174 grams of pure gold. The diameter of the coin is 27 mm. The 1/2oz Britannias have a face value of 50 Pounds and are legal tender in the UK.

Obverse: The obverse of the King Charles III 2023 Britannia 1/2oz Gold Coin features the King's official portrait, designed by Martin Jennings. This effigy of King Charles III shows his profile facing left, without a crown. This is the first official portrait of Charles III to be used on coins minted by The Royal Mint. The sculptor's initials, 'M.J.', are visible at the bottom of the head.

The inscription on the coin reads 'CHARLES III.D.G.REX.F.D'.

Reverse: The reverse of the 2023 1/2oz Gold Britannia features the classic figure of Lady Britannia, designed by Philip Nathan, with the text 'NATHAN' at the bottom of the coin.

This will be the first 1/2oz gold Britannia coin to feature the King Charles III portrait by Martin Jennings. The reverse design is the secure lady Britannia design first issued in 2021 which includes the Royal Mint's advanced security measures, such as:

Britannia's shield has additional line work detailing
Inner rim with additional Latin text
Padlock/trident changing hologram
