2022 Gold Half Sovereign Jubilee

The 2022 Half Sovereign is a British gold coin, minted by the Royal Mint. The weight of the coin is 3.99 grams with a fineness of 916.7 (22 carat gold), this means it contains 3.6612 grams of pure gold. The diameter of the coin is 19.3 mm. The Half Sovereigns have a face value of 50 Pence (1/2 a Pound) and are legal tender in the UK.

Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee: This special 2022 edition of the gold sovereign celebrates the platinum jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. To mark her 70th year on the throne the sovereign features the Royal Coat of Arms rather than the traditional George and Dragon design.

The coin has no mintmark, indicating it was struck by The Royal Mint in Llantrisant, Wales.

Obverse: The obverse of the Queen Elizabeth II 2022 Gold 1/2 Sovereign features the fifth head portrait, designed by Jody Clark. This effigy of Queen Elizabeth II shows her profile facing right, wearing the diamond crown. It is the fifth official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to be used on coins minted by the Royal Mint. The sculptor's initials, 'J.C', are visible at the bottom of the head.

The inscription on the coin reads 'ELIZABETH II.DEI.GRA.REGINA.FID.DEF'.

Reverse: The reverse of the 2022 Gold Half Sovereign features the British Royal Coat of Arms to mark the 70th anniversary of Elizabeth II's reign. The design is by Timothy Noad, and the sculptor's monogram T.N. is visible above the ribbon, along with the year of issue.

The 2022 gold Half Sovereign is struck in 22-carat gold per tradition, and is both VAT-free and exempt from Capital Gains Tax, making it an excellent choice for investors. Marking such a momentous occasion in Royal history however, it will no doubt be a popular collectors item and gift as well.
