The 1997 Technologies proof gold £2 coin - sometimes referred to as the Double Sovereign. This coin contains 14.63 grams of gold.
2,482 of these proof £2 gold coins were issued by The Royal Mint.
This is one of the first Bi-Metallic coins produced. The design was by Bruce Rushin and features a group of concentric circles representing the development of technologies through the years. The coin has two distinctive parts; the outer rim and inner plate. The outer rim has a small amount of silver added to achieve a different gold colour.
The obverse features the third portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by sculptor Raphael Maklouf.
