This Gold Proof £5 coin (aka Quintuple Sovereign, or Crown) was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Queen Victoria's death, bringing an end to her 64-year reign.
The coin obverse bears the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as created by Ian Rank-Broadley. The reverse was designed by Mary Milner-Dickens, who was commissioned on multiple occasions to work on Royal Mint coins. Her artwork sees Queen Victoria's head sat in a V shape, with the letter styled to look like rails from a railway. The architecture surrounding the Queen is meant to look like the famous Crystal Palace in London.
This Gold Proof 2001 Five Pound coin is beautifully presented in a good-quality presentation case, and comes complete with a certificate of authenticity and a full colour booklet, which discusses the coin and Queen Victoria. This set had a production limit of 3,500 sets, although just over 2,000 were originally sold.
