Description

The American Gold Eagle is a former currency coin used in America between 1792 and 1933. This $10 gold coin features either the 'Liberty Head' or 'Indian Head' design.

This coin is sold in good to fair condition, and could be any year based on our available stock. We have edited the image to reflect this..

The Gold Eagle coin contains 0.48375 troy ounces of fine gold, with a purity of .900. This is in line with European gold coins that adhered to the Latin Monetary Union's quality expectation for circulated gold currency.

The Coinage Act of 1792 authorised the US Mint to produce precious metal coins for circulation purposes. The Eagle was the highest value of five coins, and the only one made from gold. These coins were made until 1933, pre-World War 2, before gold was pulled from circulated currency. The United States would not produce any other gold coins until 1986, when it introduced the American Eagle gold bullion coin.
