This gold Sovereign features a Shield on its reverse (commonly called the 'Shield Back'), rather than the usual Sovereign design of St George slaying a dragon.
Queen Victoria's 'Young Head' portrait appears on the front (obverse) side of the coin. The W.W. engraver mark appears at the bottom of the Queen's neck, denoting sculptor William Wyon.
These gold Sovereign coins were minted between 1838 and 1887. You will receive a coin of our choosing. This product is intended for investors who do not mind which year of coin they receive.
