The 2023 Britannia half ounce gold coin is made of 24 carat gold (999.9 fineness), and features His Majesty King Charles III. It contains exactly half a troy ounce (15.551 grams) of fine gold and has a face value of £50 meaning that it is exempt from capital gains tax (CGT) for UK investors.
This will be the first 1/2oz gold Britannia coin to feature the King Charles III portrait by Martin Jennings. The reverse design is the secure lady Britannia design first issued in 2021 which includes the Royal Mint's advanced security measures, such as:
- Micro-detail waves for the coin's background
- Britannia's shield has additional line work detailing
- Inner rim with additional Latin text
- Padlock/trident changing hologram
